Well I do have some blogging to do. It's not always that easy to find access to wifi.
As far as the trip out goes, 'buyer beware with Southwest air' (our Buffalo to LA carrier). For the uninitiated, there are no assigned seats. You line up against the wall depending on when you checked-in. Problem: we had no idea and were relegated to the dreaded 'C' group line (we checked in at the airport - the key to to check in as soon as online check in starts). This means we were last on the plane, sitting in the middle and no place for overhead. It really is a new way to travel. Our theory is cut out all carry on luggage and overhead storage. This would save more time than it takes to get your checked baggage.
Sunday/Monday January 10/12 - Los Angeles.
I love Los Angeles. The weather in the winter is perfect. Blue skies and mild temperatures, beautiful flowering vegetation, palm trees, I think of Johnny Carson who moved out from New York in 1960's and would always make inside jokes about not missing New York after they moved the 'Tonight Show' to California - what a lifestyle change.
We found driving easy in L.A. We try to stay off the freeway. We visited the Kodak, and Chinese theatre at Hollywood and Highland. It was buzzing with activity. They were shutting down the street for the film debut of 'Book of Eli'. They actually carpet the road. They were also doing a photo shoot with Jackie Chan. I held hands with Hugh Jackman (his hands were on the sidewalk at the Chinese theatre).
This time we drove out to Malibu and had lunch at a coastal restaurant called 'Moonshadows'. Overlooking the surf out on the patio, we enjoyed the sun and some good food. It was great to sit outside and listen to the ocean. Lots of interesting people and bed type seating so you can lie down and eat. I have trouble keeping food off my clothes sitting up so we stuck to a booth.
This time we did some shopping at the 3rd Street promenade in Santa Monica. Not too much new or different.
